Fall 2012 Trip to Cambodia with Mark Roye

As I write this update, Mike Lynch and I are in Cambodia.  On this trip, we have visited new ministry contacts in Phnom Penh, Seim Reap, and Poipet. The purpose of our trip was to come and see what the next steps for our work here in Cambodia would be.  Our focus has always been to work through relationships and established connections with other organizations.  Since Compassion Acts was founded, we have always partnered with local people doing the work of the Kingdom.  By doing this, we feel we have a better opportunity of effectively investing our time and money.

Our first stop was in Phnom Penh where we met Eric and Jenny Hanson who have two ministries called, In His Step International and Sak Saum. Their focus is not just to rescue, but also to restore and empower children, women, and men to be productive and self-sustaining.  I can honestly say that I have never seen a ministry that has a better model to help those in need. Their whole focus is to establish a family - a community of caring people - who have been restored by the power of God’s love.  I know those are words that get used all the time, but I want you to know that this is a place where that principle is working.  We met with and visited many people who have productive lives and hold with them a rich hope of what their future will be.

To read more about In His Step ministry you can go to their website at www.ihsionline.org.

From their desire to help bring freedom and opportunity to women, they also started a business called Sak Saum. Below you will find a description of Sak Saum from their website www.saksaum.com:

“Sak Saum is a ministry dedicated to the rescue, restoration, transformation, and rehabilitation of vulnerable and exploited women. Located in Phnom Penh and the Saang district of Cambodia, we currently have 25 girls in our ministry program.

Sak Saum is pioneering a model of self-sustaining ministry. Our work is supported through the sale of Sak Saum products. Sak Saum’s business reaches over 30 states in America as well as Australia, England, Japan, Germany, and more. In order to meet product demand, Sak Saum has started two Freedom Facilities employing skilled sewers who receive fair trade salaries. These facilities are bringing job opportunities and financial empowerment to the rural Saang community.

As Sak Saum girls receive healing and vocational training, many of them move on to work full-time positions sewing for Sak Saum’s business. Our desire is to see the union of powerful, life-changing ministry with effective, excellent business.”

As you can see, we feel that these are ministries with a great vision and an action plan to help those in need.  We are so excited to partner with them - and you with us.

Third Dreamer’s Park to be built in Phnom Penh, Cambodia

One of the main goals of meeting with Eric and Jenny was for us to see if this would be the location to build another Dreamer’s Park. After meeting them and the community they serve, I am very excited to share that we will be building another Dreamer’s Park playground in a community called Saang, Cambodia.

There are over 200 children that live around their ministry center that will greatly benefit from having a safe place to play.  It will be a place where families can come and have fun and experience community together.  We will bring a team in May of 2013 to Phnom Penh, Cambodia to build what will be our third Dreamer’s Park.

Justice and Community

Justice is a word that is getting thrown around a lot today.  It means many different things to people.  A working definition I have for Justice is “giving a voice to those who have no voice and a choice to those who have no choice.”  We are to speak out and give them a voice - and by our choices of how we live our lives, we can give them choices as well.

One of the main things that I have discovered on my trip this time is that it really does take a community - a family - to bring restoration to people.  We heard this over and over from the people we met at In His Steps.  They were not changed by a program, but were changed by experiencing and observing God’s love working through their lives.  I know it sounds so simple - and it is - but I want you to know it works.  The Kingdom of God is built by relationship.

How You Can Be A Part Of This Work

We are excited about the opportunities that have come before us to partner in Cambodia.  There are many ways you can be a part of what Compassion Acts is doing in Cambodia.

  1. Pray and plan to come be a part of the Compassion Acts building and ministry team in May of 2013.  We will soon have information available about this trip.  There will be opportunities, not just for building, but also for ministering in the community. For more information, please email: CompassionActs@gmail.com
  2. You can pray for God’s provision for the people and finances to build Dreamer’s Park. To keep up with our prayer requests, please email: prayforcompassionacts@gmail.com
  3. You can donate finances for the building of Dreamer’s Park.  Our budget for this project is $30,000.  This will be for the metal covering structure, wood for the playground structures, hardware for different elements which we buy and bring from the United States, and for landscaping around the playground. Click here if you desire to contribute to this new Dreamer's Park project

I am so honored to be able to share with you the opportunities to build God’s Kingdom in Cambodia and to be a voice of justice for women, men, girls and boys who have no voice.  We have the chance to empower others who are vulnerable with a choice to change their lives.  We can make a difference!  Thank you for allowing me to share my heart with you!

Prayer Storm

Reformation Day of Prayer

With Cindy Jacobs

This week in our global Prayer Storm we want to join Cindy Jacobs of Generals International in her annual Reformation Day of Prayer held officially on Wednesday, October 31st. This is the historic day in 1517 that Martin Luther nailed the 95 Theses to the door of the All Saints Church in Wittenberg, Germany. In the spirit of calling forth the completion of Reformation in our day and time across the world, Mike and Cindy Jacobs call forth for the yearly day of prayer. So wherever you are and whatever hour you participate in “the hour that changes the world”, please adapt this theme into your own city, state or province and nation.

James W. Goll

Reformation Day of Prayer

Cindy Jacobs

Dear Friend,

As you know, Mike and I are very concerned about our nation’s future. Without a major shift this year, the United States may be unable to recover from her devastating decline. Will we remain a “shining city upon a hill?” Or will we let America’s flame of hope flicker and die?

We are facing a critical moment of decision and the USA needs our fervent prayer and swift action. That is why I want to invite you to join us as we host an extraordinary and important gathering October 31st at 7:00 pm.  Reformation Day is a special event where we will spend time together in soul-stirring worship and focused prayer for a new and transformative day for America! Our good friend and new director of Christ for the Nations, Dutch Sheets, will be there and we expect God to move mightily as we fervently intercede over the elections!

Admission is free with doors opening at 6:00 pm and pre-service worship at 6:30 pm. Make plans now to join us Wednesday, October 31st at the Institute Building on the CFNI campus at 3315 Conway Street, Dallas, TX.

It's time for a Reformation Day in America! We'll see you there!

Standing in the gap for this nation,
Cindy Jacobs
